Vintage Hair

Late 19th/early 20th century

I am excited to announce that early next year I will be participating with my local Castle on the Hill (The Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House) to present a seasonal display all regarding hair care practices of the era. Along with displays throughout the house, I will also get the opportunity to present a small lecture on the topic.

This is so thrilling for me, I get to combine two of my most favorite things; all things hair and the Victorian Era. I think I am well informed on both. I enjoy sharing information all the time and I can really focus and make things informative and fun. I will be styling a number of my dollheads to place around the house as models for the kinds of styles that ladies would have done. I plan on basing them on real photos from that time.

My presentation/lecture will include demonstrations, a slideshow, Q&A, and a small goodie bag to take home real haircare items to utilize. Plus, some tips from that time period that are still useful today. I think it will be a fun evening. The talk is aimed at both hairdressers and historians. Perhaps, someone who is versed in both.

I am very much looking forward to this exhibition and I hope that I can bring some interest to the house. It is my most favorite place in all of Eugene and any new eyes to come visit is always welcome. I am hoping to give a 5-star quality show. I shall expect to see you there. I will be sure to inform everyone the moment we have dates set.

-Side note: I do volunteer as a docent in the house 3 times per week.
