Level up

Improving my game

I have been given the opportunity to level up in my teaching game. Join me for a little story as to how.

I have been working for Matrix for almost 5 years now. Every year, the company opens up a level assessment to submit an application to determine if you, the stylist, are ready to move up a tier to get more teaching opportunities and more pay. I have not previously ever tried to do this. I know that part of the requirements are a robust social media presence. I can honestly say that I am not consistent enough in my posting on my media to feel like I meet that requirement.

Recently, I had my director ask why I had not ever applied for a level up. I told her my reasoning for the sake of my small social media situation. She reassured me that I don't need a strong social media presence, that can be taught, but that I have shown that I have the skills to present the information to other stylists. She also mentioned that the biggest part of the process is showing consistent growth in my teaching. And as I am presenting information in both English and Spanish, and I teach both online and in-person, I am absolutely qualified to put in for a raise. That I need to be paid for the work that I do. I have been teaching a lot and that means that I should be compensated.

So, I am creating my package to submit to the level assessment. I, however, set myself up for more work. I asked about the fact that I teach in two languages and if I should submit my sample class video in both. I was told that, of course I should do both. So I will be teaching the same information, but I need to do it 2 times. I am excited about the opportunity. I could be given more chances to teach and to be paid a bit more for my skills.

It feels nice to be recognized for my contributions and that I should be moving forward.
